To improve your cats’ usage of the litter box, avoid scented litters. Stick with the same type or brand of litter once you find one that is compatible with your cat. You should clean your cats litter box daily to keep it as clean as possible. Remember, if you can smell it; imagine how it smells to your cat.
Avoid placing the litter box in hard to reach places for older cats. Loud noises like a furnace, hot water heater, or rooms that kids can shut can dater your kitty from using his box. If your cat stops using his litter box, it’s recommended that you discuss this with your veterinarian to rule out any medical problems.
Next, discuss with your veterinarian what options you can try to improve litter box usage. Use a large liter box if your cat is large. They may need room to move around so they don’t feel trapped or claustrophobic.
Also, don’t stand and watch your cat to see if they have made a successful trip to the box. They may feel embarrassed to see you watching while they’re in deep concentration.
